A unique art hotel in the beautiful wine district of Valpolicella
The ‘valley of many cellars’, from which Valpolicella gets its name, has been an excellence of wine production since the ancient Greeks introduced their passito technique to create the blockbuster flavours we still enjoy in the region’s Amarone and Recioto wines.
Byblos Art Hotel Villa Amistà is a classic Venetian-style villa of the XVI century, inspired by the tradition of the Veneto region and re-interpreted to become an elegant luxury hotel and hosting an impressive permanent exhibition of contemporary art.
In the 15th century architect Michele Sanmicheli started from the ruins of a Roman ‘casa forte’ to design the central part of the villa in Venetian style. The current building, a work of architect Ignazio Pellegrini, dates back to the 18th century. Inside the villa paintings and original finds of both periods can be admired after careful renovations.
Sitting in a beautifully manicured five-acre garden, it boasts ultra modern design by renowned architect and designer, Alessandro Mendini, that stands out in stark contrast to the historic building.
Guests will find statement design, a superb spa, fitness room, outdoor pool and exquisite cuisine.
ACCOMMODATION
Each one of the 58 rooms at Byblos Art Hotel Villa Amistà is individually decorated and masterfully styled with the use of vividly bright coloured fabrics and furnishings as well as original paintings. Astounding pieces of contemporary art in dizzying colours found are throughout the hotel and include works by Marc Quinn, Damien Hirst, Anish Kapoor and Vanessa Beecroft.
DINING
The Amistà Restaurant, awarded one Michelin Star for 2021, uses local products reinterpreted in a modern key by Chef Mattia Bianchi. The gourmet tasting menus have been created to enhance the local cuisine making use of top-quality ingredients, part of which is self-produced in the property’s garden.
The idea is to live a real sensational experience through food, appreciating the wine excellences skillfully proposed as a pairing by their sommelier.
At lunch, a light menu allows to taste cold and warm dishes, enjoying a unique of its kind location, relaxing directly by the pool.
There is also Peter’s Bar where, besides a selection of cocktails, you can taste delicious aperitifs and some dishes created by the chef specially for this location.
