Fashion Weeks Around the World: What to Expect

Fashion Weeks are global events held in different countries and cities around the world. These fashion weeks play a significant role in the success or failure of different brands and designers.

This is the time when they get the chance to showcase their newest fashion collections on the runway with only a select audience to see them. Due to the relatively small venue space, only a limited number of tickets are available for every runway show.

The organizers of the show carefully choose and handpick the celebrities, media companies, and buyers that will be allowed to attend these runway shows. After the designers and brands are done with their presentations, the fashion influencers, journalists, and photographers in the audience will share the events’ highlights with the rest of the world.

Since only a select number of guests is given access to these fashion week events, the designers depend a lot on the audience who will later spread the word about their collections to the international market.

London Fashion Week combines in-your-face and traditional British style fashion. You can expect big design houses here including Burberry and Mulberry, as well as brash and bold up-and-coming designers that showcase their creations.

Milan Fashion Week

Held in Milan, Italy semi-annually, Milan Fashion Week is one of the Big Four International Fashion Weeks together with Paris, London, and New York. Unlike other sponsored fashion weeks, a nonprofit association owns Milan Fashion Week where you can expect various Italian fashion houses showcasing their seasonal collections.

New York Fashion Week

Also called Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, this particular fashion week was first held in 1943 and was also the first one to provide a platform for the idea of organizing fashion shows on certain days.

This was originally named Press Week to show off American fashion on an international level. During that time, the French industry was well ahead of American fashion. It was also meant to capture the interest of budding fashion designers who couldn’t go to Paris during World War II.

Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, and Badgley Mischka are some of the designers that often appear at the New York shows.

Paris Fashion Week

The French have always been popular for their impeccable taste and sense of fashion. It becomes even more evident during Paris Fashion Week. You can look forward to grand shows from big design houses such as Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, and Chanel.

Paris Fashion Week is mostly held in the Carrousel du Louvre as well as other venues across the city. Aside from the Ready To Wear shows for women, the fashion week also features Haute Couture and men’s shows.
