The redefinition of the area of Porta Volta, which is named after a gate in the 16th-century walls that once surrounded the city, is an intrinsically Milanese project, taking up themes of local urbanism and architecture.

Set in the heart of Porta Volta, Hotel Viu is the first hotel in Milan dedicated to the bleisure traveller, and also the first one to offer a 360-degree views of the city skyline.

This stand-out building immediately demands attention as a work of contemporary eco-friendly architecture, thanks to the vertical gardens that flank the cuboid structure’s expansive glass façade. 

Inside, blended colours and textures, including parquet oak wood floors and dark wood, provide a timeless setting for classic Italian furniture from Molteni&C Contract Division. Throw in a rooftop pool and terrace, the very first to grace a five-star hotel in the city, the Italian fashion and design capital is set to welcome a new prima donna to the scene. 

The visual concept of the hotel’s interiors was entrusted to Arassociati Studio and Nicola Gallizia Studio; this collaboration has translated into an interior aesthetic that is both soothing and surprising thanks to a tonal color palette and contemporary textures that complement the architecture of the hotel. 

The crowning glory of Hotel VIU Milan, the VIU Terrace is the only hotel rooftop in Milan with an outdoor swimming pool that features stunning 360-degree views of the city skyline. 

Teak lounge furniture is set amid Mediterranean olive trees, creating an urban oasis where guests can while away halcyon hours between dips in the pool and bask in the sun‘s warming rays from dawn till dusk.

The studied elegance that defines Hotel VIU Milan’s visual concept extend to the hotel’s 124 rooms and suites, which are a lesson in meticulously-crafted luxury. A thoughtful neutral color palette of taupe and wood hues ensure that all attention is on the spectacular floor-to-ceiling windows, which flood the rooms with natural daylight and provide unrivalled views over the Milanese skyline. 

The boundaries between inside and out are further blurred by the private terraces which are scattered across the first and seventh floors. Wood paneling of walnut, durmast and rosewood echoes-the lines and function of the classic design pieces in the rooms, while accents in bronze add a sinuous sophistication. 

Natural materials such as sandstone and oak in the bathrooms lends itself to an earthy warmth, which is amplified by the use of Port Laurent marble with its signature rich brown tone interwoven with gold threads. Natural daylight comes courtesy of a sliding wooden wall which opens up into the bedroom, meaning bath time is accompanied by a seriously enviable view, as well as a stash of the Grown Alchemist.

Culinary wonders of famous Italian chef Giancarlo Morelli

Italian chef Giancarlo Morelli’s explosive energy and inspired sensitivity are behind the eclectic and unmistakable “signature” gourmet Milanese dishes at the hotel’s restaurant bearing his name, which can be accessed both from the hotel itself and through a standalone street entrance.

Pitched at a slightly darker hue thanks to custom lighting by Pentalight, the Restaurant “Giancarlo Morelli” exudes a studied sophistication befitting the Italian capital of fashion. For dedicated gourmands, the restaurant’s 18-seater kitchen table gives an unrivalled insight into the inner workings of a Michelin-starred maestro. 

The Bulk Mixology Food & Bar, an inclusive and informal restaurant conceptualized by Morelli, boasts a subtle design shift influenced by the surrounding green spaces translates to hardwood flooring and the use of warmer, nature inspired tones.

Overlooking Porta Volta’s new public square, Bulk’s Mixology Food & Bar with its chic dark-stained teak furniture is perfectly placed to host the eternal cocktail hours of summer, ably lubricated by the bar team’s expertly-mixed Negronis.

The Hotel VIU Milan Spa offers the perfect respite from a hard day’s retail therapy, where the sauna and steam room will soothe and relieve pressure and give a much-needed metabolism boost.
A comprehensive selection of in-room massages and beauty treatments can be arranged with a team of professional therapists. 

The fitness center provides state-of-the-art Technogym equipment, as well as a CrossFit training area.
