With restrictions to be observed, promotions to be seized, images and reviews to be consulted in one go before booking a hotel, searching the web for travel information is a practice shared by millions of people around the world. And Google, of course, is for many the main gateway to finding out everything about their favourite destination. Thanks to a service that the Californian multinational company launched in Italy at the beginning of the summer, Destination Insights, it is possible to explore in real time how tourist demand is changing over time and to monitor travel trends in relation to various preset parameters, from the chosen location to the proposed holiday solution (flight and accommodation). And according to Google search data, Italy is the destination with the fastest growing demand on a global scale (75%) over the selected time period.
Germans, Austrians and French are the most passionate about Italy
Setting filters on Destination Insight that limit the analysis only to searches conducted with Italy as the country of destination of their trip, it emerges that the online users most interested in moving to the Peninsula in the period considered were those from Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland and the United States in that order. Going into even more detail, potential tourists (Italian or from the rest of the world) who used BigG’s search engine to find out about possible destinations to stay and spend a holiday put Rome at the top of their preferences ahead of two icons of the Romagna Riviera such as Riccione and Rimini. Then we find Venice, Milan, Naples and Florence and to close the top 10 of the main destinations by volume of search interest stand out (surprisingly, but not too much, given the data relating to Germans and Austrians) three locations of the Upper Adriatic Sea such as Caorle, Lido di Jesolo, Lignano Sabbiadoro.
