But which Ticino or Mediterranean. One-fifth of respondents are looking forward to vacationing in the metaverse. That’s what emerges from a representative survey of more than 1,000 people in Germany aged 16 and older commissioned by the digital association Bitkom.
Take time travel, dive into the depths of the sea or scale the Eiffel Tower in the living room: completely new experiences are now on the horizon. In fact, one-fifth of Germans expect to explore exotic places in the metaverse or with virtual reality goggles in 2030, instead of traveling in the classic way. What is somewhat surprising is the figure for younger people: 26 percent of those between the ages of 16 and 29 are convinced that this option will soon be available.
Less optimistic are seniors – over 65 – among whom interest instead drops to 15 percent.
The metaverse is a virtual space in which one interacts as an avatar, that is, through a digital model. The vast majority of respondents (87 percent) think that classic travel with real experiences will continue to be an indispensable reference. The survey was commissioned by the digital association Bitkom in Germany, among respondents aged 16 and older. “In the Metaverse we can rediscover the world and have experiences that would not be possible in reality. Virtual trips to the deep sea or distant times are just as possible as joint activities with friends who live in other places. In addition, hard-to-reach or inaccessible places are made digitally accessible and potential vacation destinations can be explored virtually in advance,” explained Bitkom CEO Bernhard Rohleder.
