The Islamic Republic of Iran has been detached from the rest of the world for the longest time. However, as times changed, things also changed for the country. Visa policies are now easing, and as a result, Iran is starting to gain a reputation as an up-and-coming hot destination among tourists.

Safety
Contrary to all the negative propaganda in some media, Iran is considered a safe country that doesn’t pose threats to tourists and citizens. Despite the presence of some terrorist groups, Iran has remained immune from these anti-human rights practices. The country is even well-known for being a safe island in the Middle East. So far, no serious terrorist incidents have been reported in Iran.
Accommodation
It is common for the natives living in the touristy cities of Iran to rent their houses to travelers. However, there might be some issues with accident insurance if you opt for this kind of residence. Thus, it is recommended to stay in accommodations that operate under the Iranian Tourism Organization.
Some of the approved venues include certified guesthouses, hotels, and a few local houses. If you are visiting on a tour, your tour guide or travel agent will choose the best accommodation for you.
Dress Code
All women over 19 years old are required to wear the Islamic dress called the hijab. However, there is no uniformity when it comes to the type or amount of coverage offered. It is also not mandatory to wear the black chador or the loose covering from head to toe.
The most common option is a manteau, a type of full-length and often long-sleeved overcoat. You can find these in overwhelming selections in many shops in the country. However, if you don’t want to buy one, don’t forget to bring a loose knee-length tunic that you can wear with a long skirt or even trousers. Jeans are also acceptable.
Ladies should also wear a scarf to cover their hair. The colors of your clothes don’t matter, either. If you are visiting Iran in summer, sandals and light fabrics are highly recommended.
There are fewer dress code restrictions for men. Short sleeves and shirts are fine, and only shorts, including knee-length ones, are considered unacceptable.
Drug and Alcohol Law
Under the law of Iran, the use and transportation of drugs and alcohol are banned in public areas. And just like in other countries, the distribution and trafficking of banned items are deemed a substantial social disadvantage.
Halal Food
According to both Islamic and Iranian regulations, only halal food is available in Iran. Halal food is not allowed to be served with alcoholic beverages.
